Clendon Park School, located at 145 Rowandale Ave, Manurewa, Auckland, NZ, underwent a comprehensive project to improve its facilities and infrastructure. The enhancements have successfully improved both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the campus while incorporating rich cultural elements.
Wharekai Conversion and Classroom Relocation:
Classroom Relocation: An existing classroom was carefully relocated to a new site within the school grounds. This process involved detailed planning and precise execution to ensure the building's structural integrity was maintained throughout the move. The relocation was carried out cleanly, with minimal damage to the ground.
Conversion to Wharekai: The relocated classroom was converted into a Wharekai, a traditional Māori dining hall, to meet the cultural and communal needs of the school. This included installing new wall linings and suspended ceilings, creating a welcoming and functional space. An existing window was replaced with a ranch slider for easy access and connectivity between buildings, opening onto a newly constructed deck that links the Wharekai to the main school building.
Fire Alarm System Upgrade: As part of the conversion, the fire alarm system in the Wharekai was upgraded to meet the latest safety standards.
Landscaping: The area around the Wharekai was landscaped to create an attractive and welcoming environment.
New Carpark and Footpaths Construction:
Carpark: A new carpark was constructed to accommodate the increased number of vehicles, providing ample parking for staff, visitors, and parents.
Footpaths: New footpaths were built to improve pedestrian access throughout the school grounds. These were strategically placed to connect key areas of the school, providing safe and convenient routes for students, staff, and visitors. Constructed with durable materials, the footpaths ensure longevity and easy maintenance while integrating seamlessly with existing pathways for a cohesive network of walkways.
The entire project was completed while the school remained operational, with special care taken to minimise disruptions to daily routines and ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
